Friday December 13, 2013
We had the honor of hosting 6 youth from Arlington Alternative High School. These students have overcome personal adversity in their lives and are on track to graduate from high school and are preparing for interviewing for jobs as they enter the community as adults.
We were approached by one of the counselors of Arlington Alternative High School who also happens to be a regular guest at Swanq Style Studio. She was simply requesting a couple of haircuts for these young people to get them started. Our team at Swanq Style Studio rallied of their choice and offered their time, energy and talents to this group.
We closed early on Friday December 13, 2013 and had a private event specifically for this youth. With donations from our vendors and from The McKinley Family of Arlington we were able to make sure each one of them left with the products for maintaining their look along with the tools (blowdryers, brushes, irons etc) and personal grooming items.
Our team expertly consulted with each one on work appropriate looks as well as makeup and skincare consulting with our in house skincare specialist Mikie Stieben. Each one was coached and taught how to maintain their look. Through the night our Solution Architect; Boo Brantley provided helpful interviewing, job skills and life skills coaching all with a smile in true southern style.
Each student was provided with an after image of their new look for their Facebook page to keep things interview appropriate. The teachers, counselors and principal showed up as support as well as they provided interview appropriate clothing using their own funds.
For us as a team this is truly gratifying to be able to use our skills and talents to give back to the community and truly act against our mission of “Helping our guests and community to be the best version of themselves!”
